Go all out for a "Sweet 16" cake.
A "Sweet 16" party is an elaborate event meant to celebrate the important rite of passage of turning 16. The cake is one of the more creative components of this event, and should be reflective of the birthday teen's personality. While you can do a simple cake design, there are some very unique ideas to celebrate turning 16 with a real bang. Does this Spark an idea?
Music-Themed Cake
Adorn your teen's "Sweet 16" cake with a tribute to her favorite music group. Not only can you put the name of the band on the cake, but you can jazz it up further with a silhouette cut-out of the group's members placed on the cake itself. You might find a bakery that can make an edible version of the cut-out or just put one on the cake that comes off when it is time to eat it. Place music notes at the top of the cake around the "16" candle.
Pink and Zebra Print
A hot pink and zebra print "Sweet 16" cake may catch the eye of your 16-year-old girl. This cake not only boasts bright color and pizazz, but there are a variety of ways in which you can decorate it as well. Do three tiers, and coat the bottom and top tier in a hot pink fondant. Then, coat the middle tier in a zebra-print pattern and get a zebra-print candle set to decorate the top of the cake. Add a little something extra with pink, black and white stars stuck out of the cake like an explosion of color and whimsy.
Blinged Out Cake
Teenagers are all about bling, so bring it to your child's "Sweet 16" party with a blinged-out cake to match an amazing party. Use a glittering number "16" cake topper and ask your cake decorator to wrap the cake in shimmering, edible sugar diamonds to make the cake shine. You can either do a plain white cake covered in the edible diamonds or add some creativity with a bold color underneath.
Pink and Green Flowers and Polka Dots
Pink and green are bright, fun-loving colors and a "Sweet 16" cake in this color scheme is a great way to liven up a birthday celebration. You could do an animal print in this color combo or decorate the cake in polka dots and flowers. If you need to switch up the theme a bit for a teen boy's cake, then you could go with a blue and black or a blue and green theme, and sub out the flowers for varying size polka dots.
