Invitations
Draw or print a picture of a monkey on the cardstock of your choice. Decorate the invitations with printed, cut-out or sticker palm trees, bananas and other monkey-related items. Punch three holes into the tops of the invitations and run a ribbon in a complementary color through the holes.
Go all-out with your invitations by cutting monkey shapes from brown cardstock and decorating them with googly eyes, felt noses and felt mouths. Write the party information on the backs of the monkey cut-outs.
Decorations
Select jungle-themed colors for your party, such as yellow, green, tan and brown. Hang streamers in these colors around the room and add artificial vines and paper palm trees. Hang or place cut-outs, posters and stuffed monkeys around the room and on furniture. Place toy or real coconuts, pineapples and bananas on tables as centerpieces. Draw or paint a jungle scene on a large piece of butcher paper or cardboard and hang it in the room. Use plates, cups and cutlery in your theme colors or purchase animal plates, cups and cutlery in a monkey theme.
Games
Have the children sit in a circle and allow each child a turn sitting in the center. The child in the center gives her best impression of a monkey. Award prizes for various categories, such as "loudest monkey," "happiest monkey." "sweetest monkey" and "craziest monkey."
Open a tub of whipped cream for each child and hide a mini-banana in it. Have the children dig into the whipped cream to find and eat the bananas. The child who finishes first, wins.
Play Monkey See, Monkey Do, a classic game where one player performs an action and the children mimic it.
Cake and Food
Bake a round cake and two cupcakes. Cut the cupcakes in half. Place half a cupcake on either side of the round cake to form a monkey head and ears. Place another cupcake half on the center of the round cake to depict the money's nose. Ice the cake brown and pipe on frosting eyes, nostrils, a mouth and centers for the ears.
Serve sandwiches like peanut butter and banana or other kid favorites and cut them into monkey or banana shapes with cookie cutters. Make monkey dogs by placing a banana onto a hot dog bun with some peanut butter and honey. Slice celery stalks into 4-inch pieces and fill them with peanut butter or cream cheese. Place animal crackers on the filling so that they appear to be standing up and walking on the celery.
Favors
Select party favor bags that match your theme colors. Fill them with favors like monkey-shaped bean bag toys, jungle stickers and coloring books, crayons, monkey story books and miniature bananas. If you need more fillers, add in bubble mix and wands or other small toys that are generally popular with kids.
