Train Birthday Party Invitation Ideas

If your child is fascinated by trains, consider a train-themed birthday party.

If you've chosen trains as the theme to your or your child's party, you've already taken a step in the right direction. Perhaps you also have the guest list, but you can't officially inform your guests until you choose your invitations. Invitations are important because they inform the invitee of the who, what, where, when and why of the party, and they give the guest a general idea of what the party will be like. Does this Spark an idea?

Traditional

Store-bought party invitations often consist of a single piece of card stock or a small card, and they come with a set of small envelopes. These invitations are inexpensive and straightforward and don't cost extra to mail. Train-themed cards might feature a picture of a train or have a train-ticket shape. Invitations are available decorated with famous train-themed characters, as well.

Customized

Online wizards and order forms can turn a regular old invitation to a sleek, customized piece of memorabilia. Invitation and greeting card customizing sites offer basic designs and then allow you to input your own information. After you've chosen a train design and typed in your child's name and all of the party details, the company prints the cards and ships them to you.

Puzzle Pieces

Whether you choose a store-bought set of invites or a more customized approach, consider attaching a puzzle piece to each invitation. The invited child will bring his invitation and puzzle piece to the party, where the kids will pool their pieces and put together the puzzle, which will, of course, be a photo or other picture of a train.

Recycled Parts

Make your child's birthday party invitations out of old train-themed greeting cards (cut off the back and use only the front) and pictures and photos of trains from books, magazines and newspapers. Paste the flimsier selections to a piece of card stock and use markers to write the party information on the back. If you don't trust your handwriting, simply print out multiple copies and paste them.
