Wedding anniversary gifts involve knowing the year of the marriage then tailoring the gift to the traditional or modern theme for the year. The first set of milestone anniversaries are the first, fifth, 10th, 15th and 20th.
First
The first anniversary provides for paper as the traditional gift and clocks for the modern gift. Fifth
The traditional gift material for the milestone fifth anniversary is wood, while the modern material is silver ware, which includes all items that are plated or made with silver. Planting a tree would be an unusual wood gift, so would a wooden art sculpture or a Celtic carved love spoon.
Silver items include eating utensils, but a better choice would be silver jewelry, such as a charm bracelet or an engraved silver locket or ring. Silver-toned picture frames work well as do letter openers, bottle stoppers or a silver tea service.
Tenth
The traditional material for the 10th anniversary is tin, while the modern gift is made from leather. Tin gifts to consider include antique signs from the 20s and 30s, or perhaps a watch in a tin box would do. Or you can put tin cups and plates into a picnic basket and fill it up with tins of food, teas and cookies.
Leather gifts include items for work, such as briefcases, business card holders or portfolios. Personal gifts include wallets, purses, shoes, boot or coats. Journals and leather-bound books would be a great gift idea.
Fifteenth
The 15th milestone anniversary involves a watch while the modern gift includes crystal, glass or quartz. Rather than choose a new watch, look for an antique one which is unique or a pocket watch, both of which can be engraved. Consider a watch that has the ability to do several different functions, like a stop watch or one that gives time in other locales.
A good crystal gift is a 3-D wedding picture laser etched into a crystal engraved with the date of marriage. Or some etched crystal champagne flutes or a crystal mantle clock would be appreciated.
Twentieth
China is the traditional gift for a 20th anniversary, while platinum is the modern one. China gifts include collectibles made from china such as figurines, China dolls, frames of decorative designer plates. Or you can add to existing china set collection with a platter, several large serving bowls, or a creamer piece.
Platinum gifts include jewelry such as necklaces or rings which can be engraved. Other items are home decor gifts with platinum accents.
