Pig Pickin' Wedding Ideas

Accent the wedding cake with the pig pickin' theme.

A "pig pickin'," typically a casual barbecue with pork as a main dish, can be an enjoyable and easy theme for a laid-back wedding reception. Incorporate the pig pickin' theme not only in the menu but in the decor. To accommodate those who don't eat pork, it's a good idea to serve a few other entree options as well.

Pork Buffet

Using pork as your theme, create a buffet spread of several pork dishes. These could range from pork kebabs to pork chops to pulled pork sandwiches to miniature pork sliders.

Pork Picnic

Create a picnic theme to complement the laid-back, casual atmosphere of a pig pickin'-style wedding reception. Cover tables in checkered tablecloths and use simple napkins and place settings. As a centerpiece for each table, place a flower arrangement in an open picnic basket.

Pork Roast

To showcase the pig pickin' theme, have a caterer prepare a full roasted pig. This eye-catching, extravagant entree can become a centerpiece for the dinner spread. Hire a chef to carve guests' cut choices to order; this will add an elegant twist to the casual style.

Cake Toppers

To tie the wedding cake into the pig pickin' theme, create or order customized wedding cake toppers. Use two miniature pig figurines or toys as the cake toppers. Enhance them by dressing them up as the bride and groom. Add a top hat and a black tuxedo coat for one of the pigs; place the other in a white dress with a veil or tiara on its head. Place the bride and groom piglets on top of the wedding cake.
