Mitzvah Theme Ideas
A bar or bat mitzvah is a celebration of a Jewish boy or girl, respectively, becoming an adult in the eyes of the Jewish community. This celebration usually involves a large party for friends and family that centers around a theme.
Candyland
Decorate the tables with candy-filled vases with big lollipops for flowers. Have a dessert bar with all kinds of sweet treats for your guests to fill their bellies with. You can even invite your guests to dress up as Candyland characters such as Queen Frostine and Princess Lolli.
Movies and TV
Invite your guests to dress up as their favorite movie or television character. Have a red carpet for guests to walk down and have their picture taken by other guests. You can even give the tables movie inspired names such as "Fight Club" and "Twilight." Play movie trivia and give out movie passes or DVDs as prizes. For food you can have popcorn, boxes of traditional movie theater candy and nachos.
American Idol
Guests can come dressed up as their favorite American Idol, or they can just wear name tags with the name of their favorite American Idol written on them. Set up a karaoke stage where guests can sing the same songs as their American Idol sang during the competition.
'80s
Have your guests dress up like they are in the '80s: Girls can wear big hair and bright clothing, boys can wear punk-rock inspired clothing or suits with big shoulder pads. Guests can dance to '80s music like Madonna and the B-52s. You can decorate the space with posters of '80s movie and music stars. Play a game of Trivial Pursuit '80s Edition to keep guests entertained and so they can learn all about the '80s.
American History
Encourage your guests to dress up as historical American figures such as Albert Einstein, Babe Ruth or George Washington. Decorate with red, white and blue balloons, streamers and centerpieces. You can even have karaoke with patriotic songs to keep guests entertained.
