Things To Do With A Baby At Disney World

Things to Do With a Baby at Disney World

Traveling to Disney World with an infant requires a bit more planning. Children under the age of 3 are admitted into the parks free of charge. Visit when the parks are less crowded and the temperatures are moderate-the first weeks of December and mid-January through mid-February are recommended. Keep food, snacks and items of comfort nearby. Know your child's limitations, stick as closely to your regular schedule as possible and enjoy a slower, more laid-back approach to the world.

Enjoy the Rides

Hit the parks early to avoid long lines. For small ones, Toontown and Fantasyland are musts. Even babies enjoy the likes of Dumbo, Cinderella's Golden Carousel and It's a Small World. Check out Disney's Fast Pass to cut down on wait times for the most popular attractions. Don't forget the Parent Swap-stand in line together and when you reach the end of the line, tell the Disney Cast Member what you're doing. They'll let one of you on the ride while the other waits with the baby. When the ride finishes, you'll trade places-thus avoiding another wait in line.

Take a Break

Disney World can be a bit overwhelming, even for adults-all the more so for babies. To stave off meltdowns, allow time for frequent breaks. If you're staying at a Disney resort, return to your room for a nap or two. Or pop into one of the Baby Care Centers for a bit of a reprieve. Located in each of the parks, these air-conditioned spots offer soft lighting, rockers, swings, high chairs, toys and videos. You can even purchase any essentials you missed, including diapers, baby food and formula. Baby Care Centers are typically located near the park entrance-ask a Disney Cast Member for directions. If all else fails, find a quiet alcove-or take in smooth attraction, such as Tomorrowland's Transit Authority.

See a Show

A baby may enjoy the sights and sounds of a show-and you'll not want for options, with everything from live performances to film. Country Bear Jamboree in Frontierland and The Enchanted Tiki Room in Adventureland are loved by children of all ages. Shows offer entertainment and a dim theater may be the perfect place to nurse or give a bottle. Just remember to sit near the back, close to an exit, if possible-in case you need to make a quick getaway.

Explore Simple Pleasures

A baby gives you the perfect excuse to enjoy the small things. Explore the grounds-the bright colors, flags, flowers and water features. Do a bit of shopping. Shop for baby when he's awake; do your own shopping while he sleeps. Lounge poolside, whether at a water park or your resort. A baby's fragile skin may demand limited sun exposure, but a few splashes will be a welcome respite from the heat. Introduce Disney characters from afar first. If the baby likes what he sees, move in for a closer look. Take advantage of the many photo opportunities to document your child's first visit to Disney World.
