Luxury Destination Weddings

Luxury Destination Weddings

Luxurious destination weddings are becoming increasingly popular as couples want to exchange vows in an exotic location or live out their dream wedding. Combining your wedding with a vacation, even for your guests, has perks for everyone involved, despite the time and costs involved with travel. Consider your budget and guest list when planning your luxury destination wedding.

Statistics

Sixteen percent of American weddings are destination weddings, according to American Express Travel Wedding Division. Over 30 percent of those take place on a beach, while another 20 percent exchange vows on a cruise. Price can be a factor, typically resulting in a 50 percent savings over traditional weddings. Guest lists are usually smaller, from intimate affairs involving only the couple to lavish parties. The average destination wedding includes 63 guests.

Function

Because destination weddings typically take place in great locations, many guests will take the time and money to travel there to enjoy not only your wedding but a mini vacation. Popular locations are coastal beaches and tropical paradises such as Hawaii, Costa Rica, Mexico, Fiji, the Bahamas, Jamaica and any other Caribbean island.

Significance

Many luxurious resorts offer all-inclusive packages or special deals for weddings. If you book your honeymoon with a resort, some resorts will offer a free wedding package as an incentive. Your wedding can be quite luxurious. You can rent an entire resort or even an entire island. Fiji offers Turtle Island for an intimate wedding. Another island you can privately rent for your wedding is Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. Either of these options will cost at least six figures.

Features

Your personality and taste as a couple should be reflected in your choice of your luxury destination wedding. For an extremely romantic, old-fashioned couple who enjoy fine dining and expensive wine, consider marrying in Paris or another European city that offers elegant chateaus and castles.

Considerations

Research the destination of your choice to find upscale hotels and resorts that have experience in hosting weddings, and look for deals and discounts. Group rates can save your guests money. If traveling abroad isn't feasible for you or your guests, consider a destination wedding within the United States.

Las Vegas offers numerous upscale hotels that cater to weddings every day. Any luxury amenity you could imagine is available, including shopping, spa services, golfing, fine dining, gambling, clubs and shows.

New York City offers grand, historical hotels, while Niagara Falls is another option for nuptials in a picturesque place. Florida offers stunning beaches and Disney World for any kind of fairytale wedding you could dream of.

California offers gorgeous beaches, trendy Los Angeles, the historic charm of San Francisco, Disney Land, San Diego and wineries.

Every state offers something fun, beautiful or unusual. There may be a historical or natural landmark or an activity you and your future spouse wish to include in your festivities, such as bungee jumping or mountain climbing.
