Prom Invitation Ideas

Prom can be the biggest night in a teen's life.

Before you resort to staring at the floor and stammering out "Willyougotothepromwithme?" consider making a good impression on your potential date. Wow him with your imaginative invitation. Stun her with your knowledge of her interests. While you can rely on modern conveniences by using Twitter or Facebook to ask out that special someone, why not put a twist on the traditional route with a creative request into which you've put some thought?

Hidden Message

Fill a piñata with notes asking, "Will you go to the prom with me?"

Simple or elaborate, hidden messages can be fun to create. Write a note in lemon juice on a plain piece of paper. Have your date hold it up to the light to reveal the message. Use tweezers to swap a fortune cookie fortune. Fill a balloon with notes asking your date to the prom. Tie a safety pin to the balloon for easy popping. Create a prom-themed scavenger hunt that leads up to the big question.

Sweet Talk

Sugar is sweet, and so is your date.

Nothing is as sweet as your prom date, but sometimes candy is just dandy. Use candy bar names in your invitation: "Be a Lifesaver and let me be your Sugar Baby for prom!" or "We'll have Mounds of fun if you'll be my prom date." Attach your invitation to the strip of paper in a Hershey's Kiss, or replace the paper with your own sentiment; you can also spell out your invitation with licorice.

Post It

Print your invitation on a T-shirt for your date.

It's hard to ignore a public invitation, so get your date's attention. Make a "Wanted" poster and under your date's picture put, "For a Date to the Prom." Get a local radio station to broadcast your prom invitation, and make sure your date is listening! Make a poster of your date's favorite movie, performer or team and have the people on the poster ask your date out for you, or keep it traditional and take out an ad in the paper. For an elaborate, one-of-a-kind invite, have a T-shirt printed for your date-to-be that asks the question "Can I take you to the prom?"

Carded

Cards also make a lovely keepsake.

Somehow, seeing it in print can make it more real. Purchase a nice card, blank or otherwise, and include a note asking your date to the prom, or use a handmade card. Materials for making these are everywhere, and it's a simple way to express yourself. Have flowers or a live plant delivered with the message, "Please go to prom with me?" Buy or make a formal invitation outlining the plan for the night, including dinner.
