Things & Activities To Do In Hawaii

Go surfing in the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii.

Hawaii is comprised of a multitude of islands in the Pacific Ocean and is home to some of the most active volcanoes in the world. The islands are replete with historic and modern attractions for locals and visitors to enjoy. Visitors can hike through rainforests to the Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island, lounge on the beach, board a catamaran to go whale watching or take part in a Polynesian luau.

Hawaii Helicopter Tours

Visitors to Hawaii can take a helicopter tour over one or several of the islands. The Circle Island Tour in Oahu gives participants a bird's-eye view of sites such as Diamond Head Crater, Pearl Harbor, the Dole Pineapple Fields and Waimea Falls Park. The Circle Island Tour of Maui brings participants over top of the West Maui Mountains, Honokohau Falls, the Seven Sacred Pools and the Hana Rain Forest. Participants on a helicopter tour over Kauai Island can see sights that include the Nawiliwili Harbor, Honopu Valley, Mount Waialeale and Waimea Canyon. Tours over the Big Island offer views of the Kohala Mountains, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the Pu'u O'o vent.

Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park

Visitors can take a self-guided driving and hiking tour of some of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park's 323,431 acres. The park is the site of two of the most active volcanoes in the world and visitors sometimes have the opportunity to see lava flowing along the park's Chain of Craters Road. There are more than 150 miles of hiking trails located throughout the park, which allow visitors to come and explore the park more than once and never see the same scenery twice. Visitors can also learn about the park at the Kilauea Visitor Center and the Jagger Museum and stay overnight at the park's Namakanipaio or Kulanaokuaiki Campgrounds.

Pearl Harbor Tour

While vacationing in Hawaii, visitors can take a tour of the memorials and museums of Pearl Harbor. Begin with a tour of the USS Arizona Memorial museum and then take a ferry boat ride to the memorial erected over the USS Arizona. Visitors can board the USS Bowfin Submarine to learn about life aboard a submarine during World War II. A nearby museum houses information on submarines used over the past 100 years. Visitors can tour the USS Missouri and visit the Pacific Aviation Museum with entertaining and heroic stories, along with a flight simulator.

Waikiki Aquarium

The Waikiki Aquarium is home to more than 3,500 marine animals including moray eels, 8-foot-long giant groupers, blacktip reef shark, green sea turtles and Hawaiian monk seals. The Barrier Reef exhibit in the aquarium's South Pacific Marine Communities is home to giant clams that weigh more than 170 pounds. Visitors can also see Hawaiian day octopus at the Jet Set exhibit and jellyfish at the Ocean Drifters exhibit. The aquarium offers a variety of education activities and programs, including an Aquarium After Dark flashlight tour, the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands overnight sleepover program and the Photographers' Night program, which is for adults only.
