Tea Party Ideas For 5yearolds

Feather boas add to 5-year-old fun.

Five-year-old little girls love to play dress up and have tea parties. Inviting friends, dolls and teddy bears to join the party encourages imaginative play. Adding fun touches, craft projects and culinary flair creates an enjoyable atmosphere that no 5-year-old can resist. You may soon find high tea a daily ritual at your favorite 5-year-old's house. Does this Spark an idea?

Dining Table Decor

Scour your favorite consignment shops, flea markets and garage sales for lots of mix and match china, silver and teacups. Mixing patterns, colors, shapes and sizes makes for a fun and eclectic look for your 5-year-old's tea party. You will need one or more fancy teapots from which to serve your tea, and linen napkins in assorted patterns and colors that coordinate with your tablecloth complete your table service.

Add a vase of fresh cut flowers when available, or have a fresh silk arrangement for a backup when you don't. Add battery operated artificial candles to a pair of fancy silver candlesticks for a festive and grown up touch the girls are sure to love.

Designer Hats

Buy a simple straw hat for each 5-year-old attending the tea party. You will find them at craft stores, usually located in the floral arranging department. Place a hat at each place setting and have silk flowers, ribbon, colorful feathers, gemstones and glitter, and along with quick drying glue, available for each guest to decorate her own hat. Each tea party guest will then don their own custom creation for the remainder of the party as well as wearing it home to use again at an upcoming tea party.

Custom Tea Cakes

Bake small, individual cakes or large cupcakes for each tea party guest. Remove any paper baking cups prior to the party and place each cake on a decorative plate, slipping a paper cutout doily in between if desired.

Cover a small table with a pretty tablecloth and add various colored frosting, sprinkles, piping, small candies and candy melts for decorating each cake. Each 5-year-old has her own cake to decorate, however she likes. Guide the guests to frost their cake first, then add any piped letters and figures, and finally to add all edible embellishments.

While the girls are cleaning themselves up, transfer each decorated cake to the dining table for consumption by their creator.
