Looking for someplace warm to go this December? In the United States, all you need is a few hours on an airplane and you've left the cold and arrived at a warm place.
Miami Beach, Florida
Miami Beach, Florida, is an ideal place to visit in December. Located on an island between the Bay of Biscayne and the Atlantic Ocean, in December, temperatures average in the upper 70s. Although Miami Beach is considered part of the greater city of Miami, Miami Beach maintains an image of luxury, beautiful beaches and top-notch hotels and restaurants. South Beach is Miami Beach's most famous district. Popularized by the television show Miami Vice, South Beach's art deco architecture and resort hotels make it the area's premier destination.
Austin, Texas
Austin, Texas, is one of the country's most eclectic cities. It is an interesting mix of government--it's the capital of Texas--businessmen, college students, hipsters and hippies. You can swim in the natural Barton Springs or jog along the banks of Town Lake. Austin also has a lively, bustling nightlife with a hearty collection of restaurants, nightclubs and concert halls. Though there have been concerns of gentrification, evidenced by the "Keep Austin Weird" signs, Austin is still the most progressive city in the state and a must-visit when the cold months have you aching for a place you can go for a swim.
San Diego, California
San Diego is known for its year-round mild weather. Devoid of the humidity that plagues some cities, San Diego is a beautiful place to visit in December. Though the San Diego Zoo and Sea World bring in many tourists, San Diego is a place where you don't need an agenda. Instead, enjoy its revamped downtown, active nightlife and gorgeous Balboa Park. The city is also minutes away from the beach where a thriving boardwalk culture is a good place to lose a few hours.
