Poipu is on the southern shore of the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The area attracts visitors for its many beaches, which include Brennecke's Beach, which is popular with bodyboarders; Baby Beach, which offers suitable swimming conditions for small children; and Poipy Beach Park, once named by the "Travel Channel" as "America's Best Beach." Visitors to Poipu also have the chance of seeing Hawaiian green turtles and, from December through May, humpback whales. The Koa Kea Hotel and Resort is situated on Poipu Beach and within a short walking distance of a number of restaurants and shops, including the Poipu Shopping Village. The hotel's 121 guest rooms offer views of either the ocean or manicured gardens and feature private decks, iPod docking stations and and espresso makers. The hotel has a full-service spa, fitness center, outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool on-site. The Koa Kea's oceanfront restaurant, Red Salt features large picture windows for ocean views and serves diverse cuisine prepared using fresh seafood and local produce. For guests looking for more casual fare, Puka Dog Hawaiian Style Hot Dogs is a five-minute walk from the hotel.
Surf Song
The Surf Song is across the street from Baby Beach and one block west of Hoai Bay, which offers opportunities for snorkeling. The hotel is set in a tropical garden in a quiet, residential neighborhood and has three guest rooms and one suite, all with private decks and some with ocean views. The hotel's suite has a full kitchen but there is no restaurant on-site. Nearby dining venues include the Beach House Restaurant, winner of Honolulu Magazine's "Best Kauai Restaurant" from 2002 through 2011.
Marjorie's Kauai Inn
Marjorie's Kauai Inn sits on a hill above the Lawai Valley, adjacent to the National Tropical Botanical Garden and 10 minutes north of Poipu Beach. The small inn has three guest rooms, each featuring tropical decor, private deck and kitchenette. The Sunset View room also has its own hot tub. The inn has a 50-foot outdoor swimming pool and hot tub, and guests are welcome to borrow beach mats, bicycles, surf boards and snorkeling gear. Kukuiolono Golf Course is a 10-minute drive away. Breakfast is included in rates and nearby restaurants include Brick Oven Pizza, which is 10 minutes from the inn.
