Tips On What To Pack For Disney World

In some ways, packing for a trip to Walt Disney World is no different than packing for any other vacation. You need a suitable number of clothes, any medication you might require and a camera to record the highlights of your trip. Beyond that, however, there are several specific aspects to Walt Disney World which benefit from some extra items in your suitcase. They'll make your trip much more enjoyable in the long run.

Weather Accommodations

Orlando is both warm and wet, with plenty of sunshine contrasted by periodic bouts of rain. You'll need to prepare for both when you come to Disney World. Pack sunscreen for your skin and give everybody in your party hats or caps to keep their faces protected as your group moves through the park. Handheld fans or spray bottles can help you beat the heat as well, and insect repellent will keep the Disney World's six-legged residents a safe distance away. Disney World has only closed a few times for weather (even Mickey can't withstand a full-bore hurricane). However, for those times when it rains, it pays to include a small umbrella or a weather-proof jacket in your belongings.

Walking Around

Every Disney park entails a good deal of walking around and a certain amount of standing in line. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes when you go. Bring sneakers or something you can tramp around in for hours. Bring along only casual clothing that won't chafe or constrict you. For those long waits in line, bring along a paperback book, crossword puzzles or some portable games for the kids. If you have young children, consider a stroller as well. Disney will rent them to you if you want (in fact, they'll sell you just about anything on this list), but you can avoid a hefty fee if you can bring your own.

Safety and Fun

It's easy to get separated at the Disney World parks; experts recommend bringing along cell phones, pagers or walkie talkies for every member of your party. In case you become separated, you can use them to stay in touch. Tethers or leashes for very young children are a great idea as well. On a lighter note, you can get a great souvenir simply by bringing along an autograph book and a thick felt pen. Disney characters like Mickey and Donald wander around all of the parks, and will be happy to sign autographs for you if you approach them. They can grasp thick pens with their cartoon gloves much more easily than thin ones.
