Things to Do in Hawaii When It Rains


The leeward side of the Hawaiian Islands tends to be dry, while cooler temperatures and rain are more common on the windward side. The most rainfall occurs between November and March, according to Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau. There are a variety of things to do when it rains in Hawaii.


Polynesian Cultural Center


The Polynesian Cultural Center, a 42-acre site featuring eight villages that represent eight island cultures, is located in Laie on the island of Oahu. The center opens at 11:45 a.m. Monday through Saturday.


Bishop Museum


The Bishop Museum in Honolulu on the island of Oahu has more than 24 million artifacts. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Monday.


Jimmy Buffet's at the Beachcomber


Hang loose at Jimmy Buffet's at the Beachcomber in Honolulu. The restaurant opens at 7 a.m., features live entertainment nightly and has a bar located in The Honolulu Surfing Museum; which is full of surfing memorabilia.


Volcano Art Center Gallery


Visit the Volcano Art Center Gallery on the Big Island of Hawaii to see glass works, paintings and wood carvings. The historical gallery, built in 1877, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.


Lyman Mission House and Museum


Visit the Lyman Museum in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii featuring the Earth Heritage exhibit. You can also tour the Lyman Mission House next door. Both open at 9:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
