Restaurant Themed Event Ideas

Use a red flower in a vase to decorate a restaurant-themed event.

Whether it's a child's birthday at home or a fund-raising dinner at a banquet hall, almost any event can have a restaurant theme to fit the occasion. When planning this event, pick a specific kind of restaurant you want to emulate, such as a French bistro or 1950s diner. Plan the decorations, invitations, activities and favors accordingly to make guests feel like they've just stepped into that restaurant. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

Set the tone of the event by creating restaurant-themed invitations. These can be traditional card invitations with wine bottles and pictures of food, although shaping the invitation like a menu will add extra flair. Place the name of the event near the top of the page where a restaurant's logo would go. Organize the information in a way that looks like a menu, with separate headings such as "what," "where" and "when" and the information listed below each one.

Decorations

Make your event look like a restaurant with decorations. Think about what style of eatery you're trying to recreate. For example, if you want to create an Italian-inspired look, cover each table with red-and-white-checkered linens. Place a dripping candlestick in a wine bottle for the centerpiece, and hang a chalk board menu with a list of the evening's events. More intimate and elegant restaurant-inspired settings can include crisp white tablecloths paired with a single red rose in a vase as the centerpiece. As each guest sits down, hand them a menu, which could actually be the program of the event.

Activities

Continue the restaurant theme of the event by hosting activities. Hire a professional chef to attend the event and give cooking demonstrations. Guests can also prepare their own food a with personalized pizza decorating stations, complete with all the ingredients they might desire on their food. Kids and adults will both enjoy the creativity of napkin decorating. Provide white napkins, either in cloth or a hardy paper material, as well as markers witch which to personalize them.

Party Favors

Send guests home with a memento of the restaurant-themed night with a party favor. Hand out mints as guests walk out the door, just as they would receive at many eateries. Have the name of the event printed on each mint wrapper for added details. If the party followed a specific style of restaurant theme, give a favor to fit that. For example, Indian food restaurant parties can provide bangle jewelry to guests.
