Create your own beach, right in your backyard.
Planning a party for adults presents a series of problems you won't find when planning a party for kids. Adults are less likely to play childish party games and may balk at the idea of dressing up in costumes. Unusual adult birthday party ideas are meant to get the adults involved in a specific theme. Knowing that the decorations and other costumes work with the theme make it more likely that other guests will get involved. Does this Spark an idea?
Biker Party
Host a biker-themed party, complete with bikers and biker "babes." Encourage your guests to come dressed in their favorite biker outfit, including accessories like a bandana and sunglasses. Decorate the room with biker memorabilia and pieces relating to major motorcycle manufacturers, like Harley-Davidson. Hold a costume competition, where guests vote on their favorite costumes and award toy motorcycles and stuffed Harley hogs as prizes. Serve food and snacks in tire and motorcycle shaped dishes and offer specialty drinks. Mix together different types of alcohol, with fruit juice or soda and give each one a motorcycle name, like a Harley Cooler. For a twist, offer small carafes of assorted alcohol and have the guests invent their own cocktails with biker names.
Tropical Getaway at Home
Wild, tropical parties started at colleges, but the idea also works as an unusual birthday party for adults. Plan the party outside and pick different areas of your yard to make sandpits. Cover the ground with plastic tarps, which makes cleaning the sand easier. Have large batches of sand delivered to your home and put on the tarps. Arrange different areas for each sandpit, such as a sand castle building area and a sand volleyball court. Guests wear Hawaiian shirts or grass skirts and bathing suits. Pass out flowered leis and offer fruit punch and fruit alcohol drinks, all served in coconut shells or fake coconut shells. If you have a pool, float candles on the water.
Black and White Party
For a more upscale birthday party, hold a black and white cocktail party. Guests wear either all black, all white or a combination of the two colors. The shades play into the decorations as well, with black and white streamers and balloons. Play soft music in the background, such as a mellow jazz CD, which lets your guests hear each other over the music. Offer champagne cocktails and other upscale drinks, as well as a wide selection of appetizers. You can also hold a masquerade ball or party in the same way. Ask guests to wear masks over their faces or pass out masks at the party. For a fun variation, have guests attempt to speak in funny accents according to their style of dress.
