Pig Birthday Cake Ideas

Model the pig cake after the real animal.

Whether the birthday party is on a farm or in the city, a pig cake makes all of the guests feel like a country kid. A sweet version of the popular farm animal works well for a pig or farm theme party. The designs range from very simple to more elaborate, giving bakers of varying skill levels options for a pig cake. You can also request the pig cake designs at a local bakery if you want to let someone else do the work. Does this Spark an idea?

3-D Pig

This cake resembles a pig laying on its stomach. You'll need a large dome cake, a smaller dome cake and a cake baked in a loaf pan to construct the 3-D pig cake. The dome cakes can be baked in oven-safe Pyrex bowls. The large dome cake makes the body of the pig. The smaller dome cake makes the head. Place them next to each other on a cake board and cover them with pink frosting or fondant. Cut the loaf pan to create four legs and a snout. Cover these parts with frosting or fondant and place them next to the body and head. Use fondant to create the accents for the cake, including the eyes, ears, tail and nostrils.

Pig Pen

This simple decorating option turns a plain sheet cake into a showcase at the party. Ice a cake with either green frosting to resemble a field or brown frosting to resemble mud. Add a plastic fence from a child's play set around the edge of the sheet cake. Place clean, plastic toy pigs inside the pig pen on top of the cake. Squirt some brown frosting on the pigs to make it look like they are covered in mud. You can also create pigs out of fondant.

Shaped Sheet Cake

A plain sheet cake becomes more interesting when it is cut into a pig shape. Create a pig template to make the cake cutting easier. Print or draw a side profile picture of a pig for the template. Place it on top of the sheet cake and trim around the pig template. Remove the cake that was trimmed off. Ice the cake in pink or another color based on how you want the pig to look. Use frosting to add the pig's ears, eyes, nose and mouth.

Pig Face

A round cake creates the base for a pig face cake. This option is simple for any level of cake decorating skills. Ice the cake with pink icing to create the foundation for the pig decorations. Remove the liner from a cupcake and cover it with pink icing. Place the cupcake in the middle of the round cake as the pig's snout. Shape two pieces of pink fondant into pig ears. Fondant allows you to mold it into nearly any shape. Place the fondant pig ears near the top of the cake. Use frosting to add the pig's eyes, mouth and nostrils.
