Oahu's west side, on the left, as seen from the air.
The west side of Oahu is also known as the Leeward side. This part of the island is separated from the central core by the Waianae mountain range. The west side is drier and warmer and the vegetation sparser. The waves, though not as massive as on Oahu's North Shore, are higher than in Waikiki, so surfers are attracted to the area's beaches. There are few hotels on this side of Oahu but the ones that do exist are worth a visit.
