What Kinds Of Food Do You Have At A Baby Shower

Cakes are a popular item to serve at a baby shower.

Baby showers are special celebrations that involve food, games, gifts and fellowship. The food that you serve at the event can be as formal or as informal as your event. Finger foods are the most common types of foods served because they are easy for your guests to enjoy without mess. Does this Spark an idea?

Cake

Baby shower cakes come in any flavor, style or color. Decorate the cake to announce the name of the baby or the due date. The cake is an excellent canvas to put anything in writing for the party. You can also write congratulations to the parents to be. Baby shower cakes are the centerpiece of the shower buffet, so have a cake that will be large enough to feed the entire shower party. A standard 6-inch round, 2-layer cake will serve 10 to 12 people. Add extra layers or have a sheet cake made to the number of people that will be in attendance. A 9-by-13-inch sheet cake will serve up to 24.

Dips

Slice bite-sized raw vegetables, such as cherry tomatoes, celery, carrots and broccoli, and serve them with ranch dressing or your favorite dip. Ripple chips work well with French onion dip. Try queso with tortilla chips or scoop-shaped corn chips. For the sweet tooth, you can add a chocolate fountain with fresh fruit served on toothpicks. Fruit to try are apples, strawberries, pineapple and bananas.

Finger Sandwiches

Sandwiches cut in shapes with cookie cutters make excellent finger sandwiches. Take a standard slice of loaf bread, cut the crusts off and fold the bread in half. Fill the sandwiches with chicken salad, pimento spread, cucumber and mayonnaise, or miniature ham and cheese or turkey and cheese. If there will be children with parents, you can even make mini peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. For a twist on sandwiches, wrap ham or turkey in flour tortillas with cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, peppers and pickles. Place all the ingredients inside the tortilla, wrap tightly and secure with a toothpick.

Snacks

Place small bowls along the serving tables and fill them with chocolate-covered candies, mixed nuts, mints, small wrapped chocolates and truffles.

Punch

Punch is a festive drink to serve in punch bowls at your baby shower. Combine any flavor of sherbet with two 2-liter bottles of ginger ale. For a fruity twist, mix together a 2-liter of ginger ale, a can of frozen lemonade and a half gallon of sherbet. Add the ice cream right before you serve the punch to prevent the ice cream from being completely melted. Use a punch ladle to spoon the punch into plastic cups for your guests.
