Unique Backyard Wedding Ideas

Unique Backyard Wedding Ideas

If you want to have your wedding outside, and want a small ceremony that will take place at home, you can organize a backyard wedding that will be picturesque and memorable. Using a few home improvement and craft items will make the scene especially inviting and tailored to suit your personality.

Flowers and Vases

Use the flowers that you've already planted in your garden to add to the wedding ceremony decor. If you don't have many flowers, or want to include specific colors, order the plants from your local floral shop, and buy large vases in which to display the flowers. The vases can line the 'aisle' you'll walk down, or can decorate the ends of the rows of chairs where the guests will sit. Large vases or steel pails filled with flowers can also adorn the 'altar', or the space where you and your spouse will exchange your vows. Flowers such as lilies and tulips will look wonderful at a spring or summer backyard wedding; timeless flowers like white and red roses are perfect decor to use year-round. Use clear glass vases to further showcase the colors of the flowers, or use white vases, which will stand out against the green grass.

Seating

Seating choices for your backyard wedding can be as fashionable and original as you'd like, and should comfortably accommodate all your guests. If the guest list is fairly small, place a solid color area rug in the wedding space, and purchase white reading chairs and a love seat to serve as the seating area. Of course, this furniture can also be re-used in your home after the ceremony.

For a rustic or country-style wedding, wooden benches decorated with ribbon bows can be used to seat your friends and loved ones, and you can use them in your garden area afterward. If your wedding will have a tropical or beach theme, trendy lawn furniture in the colors of your choice can face the area in the backyard where you and your spouse will say "I do."

Partitions and Tents

If you also want to have the reception in the backyard, there are some decorative accents you can use to divide the two spaces. Satin ribbons draped over shepherd's hooks or a small trellis can serve to partition the ceremony space from the reception area. Or, use a tiny fence made of wood or wire painted in the color of your choice to separate the two spaces, and to make your backyard wedding look especially elegant. Fabric aisle runners will complete the backyard wedding look--one color aisle runner can be used for you to walk down the aisle on, and the other can introduce guests to the reception tables.
