What Wear At A Hawaiian Party

Going to a Hawaiian party can be a lot of fun and hours of enjoyment. One trademark of a successful Hawaiian party is the attire everyone wears. The decorations, food and music can all be wonderful, but getting dressed up and showing off your creativity is most of the fun. There are different approaches when it comes to choosing the perfect outfit. You want to choose something reflective of your personality and that suits your comfort level. Does this Spark an idea?

Choose Traditional

The most common approach of what to wear at a Hawaiian party is the traditional approach. Men wear shorts with a floral shirt and sandals. Wear white shorts with loud and bright colors for the shirt. Women should wear a grass skirt, with a light and free-flowing top. Accompany the skirt and top with dressy sandals or flip-flops. Adorn your hair with a fresh, tropical flower, placed behind the ear. To top it off, create or buy a lei. A lei is a strand of flowers worn like an oversized necklace around the neck. This is traditional for both men and women to wear during a celebration.

Go Chic

Another approach is to go chic and modern with a flare of Hawaii. Women can wear a casual evening gown that is chic, modern and simplistic. Choose colors representative of the Hawaiian culture. Consider bright colors such as white, green or blue to celebrate Hawaii. Accompany the dress with dressy high heels or stylish, open-toed flats. Make a lei from large, deep-green leaves as a finishing touch to the classy, modern Hawaiian look. Men can opt for light-khaki-colored linen pants with a white, free-flowing button-up shirt. The shirt should be very casual and made from light materials. Wear designer sandals and a light, fruity fragrance cologne.

Use Costumes

If the party is unsophisticated, don't bother with spending a lot of money on your attire. Instead, visit a party store and purchase cheap, paper-made Hawaiian costumes. Purchase an affordable imitation grass skirt and wear a pair of shorts underneath. You can also purchase imitation leis that you could use again and again for other parties or Halloween costumes. Either use a cheap boogie board (a shortened foam board for bodysurfing) or borrow one from a friend and carry it around with you at the party to add another element of Hawaiian culture.
