Koa Pancake House
Koa Pancake House is a local chain with aspirations to expand statewide and over to the mainland. The first Koa Pancake House opened in Kaneohe in 1988; there are now six locations in Oahu, including Mauna Loa. The original restaurant still offers full dine-in service while its younger siblings are more casual. Koa serves an assortment of pancakes, including those enhanced with blueberry, strawberry, banana, cheese, chocolate chip, and pecan. Honolulu publications consistently rate the chain as one of the best on the island.

Original House of Pancakes
The Original House of Pancakes got its start in Portland, Oregon, in 1953, and still remains a family-owned business. The chain has two restaurants on Oahu, including the one on Kapiolani Avenue in Waikiki. The restaurant serves many varieties of pancakes, including one named after the 50th state: Hawaiian pancakes. These are buttermilk pancakes filled with crushed pineapple and served with tropical syrup. The restaurant also serves coconut pancakes as well as pancakes filled with bacon bits. Also on the menu are Swedish pancakes, sourdough pancakes, pecan pancakes, and potato pancakes.

When this pancake house was founded in 1958 in Touluca Lake, California, it was known as the International House of Pancakes. Over the years the chain shortened its name to IHOP while growing in size to more than 1,000 restaurants serving more than 700 million pancakes a year. IHOP's pancakes come in the standard flavors of strawberry, banana, cheesecake, blueberry, cinnamon apple, and chocolate chip. It also serves seasonal favorites, such as pumpkin pancakes around Thanksgiving. It has two locations in Honolulu.
