A party theme also helps break the ice in the beginning of the party if your guests are just meeting each other for the first time. Having a theme also might make the process of choosing what to wear less stressful on your guests. Does this Spark an idea?
Fortuneteller Theme Party
Fortuneteller is an original party theme that's fun and easy to pull off with a little imagination. There are lots of ways to create the atmosphere of a fortuneteller in your home without breaking the bank. Hang beaded curtains at the entrance to your home or apartment so guests immediately identify the theme. Any psychedelic, mystical lighting effects are good, such as lava lamps, strobe lights, and swirly colored lights. Instruct your guests to wear gypsy or fortuneteller garb (big hoop earrings, head wraps, baggy pantaloons, etc.) Hire a professional psychic or tarot card reader if you can, or at the very least supply fortunetelling games like an Ouija board or magic eight ball.
50s Theme Party
The 1950s is another fun party theme, especially for people who grew up during that time. Decorations are pretty easy, especially if you have lots of 50s rock and roll memorabilia, records, a jukebox, or guitars you can hang. Literally any cultural reference will work as decorations, including movie posters, old cookbooks, ad posters, and army recruitment posters. Guests can dress up as 1950s icons like Elvis Presley, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando, and Sophia Loren. They can also dress up like classic 1950s housewives and white-collar businessmen. Of course, no 50s party is complete without classic hits from the era, such as Heartbreak Hotel, Roll Over Beethoven, and Not Fade Away.
Jungle Theme Party
A jungle theme party is great for all ages and encourages people to be really creative with their costumes. Tell your guests ahead of time to dress up like lions, elephants, leopards, ostriches, gorillas, and any other jungle animal. Decorate your house with exotic plants, streamers (dark green, brown and black), inflatable palm trees, twinkling holiday lights, and lots of animal print. The idea is to create the illusion of a deep, dark jungle as much as possible, so keep the lights low at all times. This party lends itself to a fun tropical menu with lots of finger foods. Grilled meats and seafood on skewers with spicy fruity salsas will go over well. If it's a kids party, organize some kind of jungle-themed scavenger hunt to keep them busy.
