NOH Foods of Hawaii was founded in 1963 by a very entrepreneurial Korean family that immigrated to Hawaii. Edwin Noh and Miriam Noh started many businesses ranging from an ice cream shop to a Korean Kimchi restaurant until finally concentrating on a business of making and packaging spice. NOH Foods of Hawaii headquarters is in Kalihi, Oahu, in Hawaii, with two distribution offices located in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Gardena, California. NOH products are distributed worldwide.
How It All Started
In the July 2007 issue of Honolulu Advertiser, Curtis Lam says that Edwin Noh and Miriam Noh immigrated to Hawaii from Korea and established a Korean Kimchi restaurant, Arirang, in 1961. However, the process of making Kimchi was labor intensive so Edwin Noh started to experiment on various ways to make Kimchi. He developed a Kimchi spice mix and then from the prodding and encouragement of family and friends, he added a variety of Asian seasoning mixes in his product line. Eventually, the Noh family retired from their restaurant business concentrating on the production and packaging of their spice blends. To this day, NOH Foods is a family owned and operated business.
