When Should I Mail My Baby Shower Invitation

Invitations serve to invite prospective guests to the baby shower you're hosting, as well as provide important information such as if it's a surprise party. Sending the invitations in a timely manner is important, so that guests can arrange their schedules to attend; however, sending them too far in advance may cause guests to forget about the shower. Does this Spark an idea?

Two to Three Weeks

For most situations, send the baby shower invitation at least two to three weeks before the shower. For a typical shower where friends and family plan to gather in a casual setting, two to three weeks is plenty of time.

Four to Six Weeks

For more formal showers or those involving special circumstances, mailing the invitations four to six weeks before the shower allows guests to plan better. This is extremely important for formal parties or showers that fall around major holidays when many people make plans. Sending the invitations four to six weeks before the shower also gives you more time to collect RSVPs and track down those who haven't responded.

Basic Invitation Information

Include any specific instructions or requests in the invitation. For example, if it's a surprise party, make that clear. If you're planning a poolside barbecue, mention it so guests bring swimwear and towels. Write "potluck" if you want each guest to contribute a dish. Make suggestions or drop hints about the baby's nursery theme or list where the expectant parents are registered. Supply your guests with all of the information they'll need to make it to the shower and shop for the perfect gift for the new parents and baby.
