When you're planning a birthday party, coming up with ways to keep guests entertained falls high on a hostess's list of responsibilities. Challenge guests with word games that instruct them to unscramble words. You can use the theme of the party and the age and interests of the attendees to come up with various birthday unscramble games. Give prizes to the participants who unscramble the most words. Does this Spark an idea?
Names of Invited Guests
Write the names of each person planning to attend the birthday celebration. Scramble their first names, then their last names. While guests may know each other, they may not know spell each other's names. You can list a clue for each name, such as a funny fact, or just list the guests' names.
Songs of the Decade
Find out which songs were popular in the decade the guest of honor was born. Create a list of ten song titles, along with the artists' names. Decide whether you want to scramble the artists' names or the titles of the songs; you can do both ways if you want variety.
A Few Favorite Things
Ask the guest of honor to tell you her favorite types of foods, places to vacation, books, television shows, music groups, restaurants to visit in town and songs to sing. Use this information to create an unscramble birthday game that will stump the guests. Give them small clues, by listing "favorite food," then list the answer with the words scrambled.
Places I Go
If the guest of honor has traveled extensively, you can make a list of the places he loved the most. Scramble each destination and present guests with a "Places I Go" game. Include at least ten destinations to make it challenging.
Birthday Wishes
Before the party, have the guest of honor give you a list filled with ten of his birthday wishes. Scale each wish down to about two or three words so that guests aren't unscrambling long sentences. Scramble the letters for each word that's part of a wish, for each wish, and then present the puzzle to birthday guests.
