Meals For A Beach Wedding

A seafood buffet is an ideal way to celebrate a beach wedding.

A beach wedding reception provides a great opportunity to relax traditional formalities and throw caution to the wind. Allow guests to let their hair down with a beer and a buffet barbecue or a sumptuous seafood spread. Prepare the food in a beach-side venue where guests can wander onto the beach at leisure or set up a designated wedding gazebo and barbecue area directly on the beach for a rustic vibe. Bring plenty of coolers to keep the food fresh.

Hors D'oeuvres

Most beach weddings take place in tropical climes, so wet the guests' appetite with cooling hors d'oeuvres. Allow guests to pick between a refreshing tomato and red pepper gazpacho soup or a visually exciting prawn cocktail. Set up sushi salad plates to go alongside the regular hors d'oeuvres servings.

Seafood Spread

What better way to celebrate a beach wedding than with a seafood spread. Feast your eyes, and taste buds, on a selection of caviar, sushi, shrimp, smoked salmon, lobster and crab -- as well as cooked fish dishes for squeamish guests. Provide a choice between salmon and sea bass with a white sauce, lemon juice and boiled new potatoes or a cold new potato and dill salad.

Barbecue Delights

Set up a barbecue station with a difference. Make your own gourmet blue cheese burgers, pork and cider sausages, kebabs and vegetable and halloumi cheese skewers. Serve with dishes that can be kept fresh in large bowls and don't need too much maintenance -- fresh green salads, potato and herb salads, coleslaw, rice and bean salads.

Fruit Feast

A summer beach wedding calls for an abundant celebration of seasonal fruits and berries. Fruits, bridal-looking berry and cream meringue desserts, and rich fruit salads all make delicious choices that will make mouths water. For the cherry on the top, quite literally, celebrate with a cherry or red velvet wedding cake that positively oozes a summer berry treat for the senses.

Drinks

Serve a generous variety of fresh juices and fresh-fruit cocktails. For a treat with a difference, mix sparkling wine together with fresh elderflower or cranberry juice. Include champagne on the drinks menu but remember to include a good selection of beers for a casual wedding vibe.
