Nancy Drew solves a mystery abroad in "Danger by Design."
"Nancy Drew: Danger by Design" is the 14th installment in the Nancy Drew Adventure PC games produced by HerInteractive. This time the amateur sleuth travels to Paris where she works undercover as an assistant to a masked fashion designer who is receiving strange threats. Nancy must discover who is behind it all by talking to suspects and solving puzzles.
Junior vs. Senior Detective
This game has two levels of play: junior or senior detective. Junior detectives receive a "to do" list that keeps a player on track with the puzzles and tasks in the game. Additionally, a few puzzles are easier on the junior level than the senior level. Nancy also can phone friends for hints on the junior level. The senior level has none of these features in order to make the game more challenging.
The Metro
Nancy Drew travels to several locations in this game using the subway system in Paris, otherwise known as the Metro. Nancy acquires a Metro pass as soon as she arrives. There are multiple subway lines, and it's important to choose carefully in order to reach each location swiftly. To avoid wasting time on the Metro, trace the path of each particular line in order to see where it ends up. The main locations in the game are: Place Monge, Rue de Bac, Pont Neuf, Square Du Vert Galant and Hotel de Ville.
Money and Buying Items
Pont Neuf is a park within the game where vendors sell a variety of items. Nancy receives a small amount of euros at the beginning of the game. Once these run out, she can earn more money by painting pictures for a vendor named Marchand. Additionally, Nancy will need to buy several items from the park vendors throughout the game. Vendors set a specific cost on all the items for sale, but Nancy can sometimes successfully negotiate a lower price,
Second Chances
"Second Chances" occur when Nancy makes a fatal mistake. After selecting "Second Chance," players are taken to an earlier point in the game before the mistake was made. Situations where you might make a fatal error and have to use a second chance include defusing a bomb, diving in the tunnels and confronting the culprit.
Watch the Clock
Nancy must keep an eye on the time throughout the game. She is only allowed to investigate during the day and automatically returns to Place Monge when evening arrives. If you are in the middle of the day and need it to be morning again, go through the double doors in J.J.'s apartment, which is located at Place Monge, and time is automatically reset.
