Nancy Drew has been around for over 80 years (as of April 2011), captivating audiences of young and old alike. Ever since 1998, the company Her Interactive has developed and sold Nancy Drew games for PCs, Macs and console systems. Board games have also been a part of the Nancy Drew lineup since 1957. Each type of game allows young girls and adults to follow Nancy as she solves one of her many mysteries.
Board Game
Parker Brothers started marketing a Nancy Drew board game in 1957 and there was a remake of the game in 1959. In both versions the object of the game is to be the first player to find out Nancy's whereabouts. The games come with a game board, two dice, 40 mystery cards, 20 to 30 game pieces, four metal cars and an instruction manual.
Computer Games
The company Her Interactive started producing Nancy Drew computer games for the PC and Mac in 1998, starting with the game Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill. Each game follows Nancy Drew as she finds clues, interrogates suspects, solve puzzles and finally solve the case. Players are able to choose between junior and senior detective levels for game play. There have been 23 games released for the PC and Mac, with the most recent being Nancy Drew: Shadow at the Water's Edge released on October 19, 2010. There was also a rerelease of the first Nancy Drew game, Secrets Can Kill, with new puzzles and updated graphics.
Console Game
In 2007, Her Interactive came out with its first Nancy Drew game for the Wii console. The game, Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek, was a console version of an already released computer game. The game makes use of the Wii remote to throw things, cook and interact with the wolf character. There are also mini-games included in the larger game specifically made for the Wii console.
Mobile Game
With the explosion of popularity of games for mobile devices, Her Interactive came out with a Nancy Drew mobile game called Nancy Drew: The Secret of Shadow Ranch. The game is designed for the iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch and players choose what path they take and solve both easy and hard puzzles to solve the mystery. Depending on which path you choose at each crossroad, the game is different each time you play. This game can be bought from the Her Interactive website or the App Store.
