A tropical bulletin board is a cheerful way to decorate the classroom.
Decorating a classroom bulletin board with a tropical theme provides a bright and cheery decoration for the room. With sunshine, palm trees and colorful fish, it is easy to bring the tropical environment into the classroom. These tropical bulletin boards can be used when the class is learning about tropical destinations or simply during the spring season.
School of Fish
Decorate the tropical bulletin board with an "under the sea" theme. Begin by covering the board in blue paper. Then, attach a piece of iridescent cellophane at the bottom of the board. To do this, staple around the bottom and sides of the cellophane. However, leave the top open, creating a pocket along the bottom of the board. Fill this pocket with colorful Easter grass to imitate seaweed at the bottom of the sea. Then, allow each student to create a paper-bag fish. Give the students a brown paper bag and allow them to decorate the bags with paint, glitter and various decorations. Once the paint has dried, stuff the bag with crumbled newspaper to fill its body. Tie the end with a piece of yarn and fluff out the tail. Staple these fish around the bulletin board to decorate the sea and show off the students' artwork.
Tropical Stars
Cover the top three quarters of the bulletin board with light blue paper and the bottom quarter with light brown paper. These colors will imitate the sand and sky. Then, use butcher paper or card stock to create a palm tree with a brown trunk and bright green leaves. Secure the palm tree to the board. Provide the students with starfish-shaped pieces of card stock in various colors and allow them to decorate the starfish with their names. Then arrange the starfish around the bulletin board. Add a sun, clouds, coconuts and any other items you desire to the board. Include the phrase "Tropical Stars!" at the top of the board.
Get Hooked On Reading
Cover the bulletin board in blue paper to imitate the sea. Use bright colored letters to spell out the following title across the top of the board: "Get hooked on reading!" Cut long strings of yarn and hang them from the top of the bulletin board. The yarn can hang over the letters, just as long as the letters can still be read easily. If the students are old enough to handle sharp objects safely, attach fishing hooks to the ends of the yarn. If not, simply leave the ends of the yarn free. Then, separate the students into small groups. Provide each group with a thick piece of card stock, washable markers and a book that the class will be reading. Ask the group members to work together to decorate the card stock to imitate the cover of their book. Once all the "books" have been created, punch a small hole in the top-left corner. Then hang the books from the fishing hooks or simply secure them to the string.
