Senior citizens who enjoy indoor and outdoor activities have a range of different games and activities. Some help seniors stay active, while others are mentally challenging. These activities are ideal for a retirement community or members of the older generation who still live on their own. Getting up doing something fun is one way to more fully enjoy life and get away from the TV for awhile. From shuffleboard to board games, there are plenty of activities for seniors.
Bocce Ball
Bocce ball is a simple game of skill that involves some movement of the legs and arms. Players pitch a ball towards a circle and whoever gets the ball closest earns the most points. Scoring usually goes like this. Teams receive one point for every ball that is closer to the center than any of the other team's balls. The first team to collect nine points wins. This game is played on grass, sand or an outdoor court area. It is also inexpensive with bocce ball sets costing as low as $10.
Gardening
Gardening is another activity that many senior citizens enjoy. It does not require large tracks of land or even a large outdoor area. In fact, container gardening only requires a windowsill or porch area that receives sun light during the day time. Gardening provides an outlet and something to think about as well. Seniors take pride in growing tomatoes, cucumbers, flowers and beans. Any type of gardening requires motor skills, concentration and provides a daily regimen.
Aqua Aerobics
Aqua aerobics is an activity for seniors who partake in regular exercise. It provides seniors with an outlet in a safe environment. Aqua aerobics are performed in a shallow pool and typically led by an instructor. The classes are set to music and include simple but useful movements like arm lifts, walking in water and leg lifts. The water provides some buoyancy and makes the aerobic class more interesting and fun. This is an activity for seniors who are healthy and very aware of their environment.
