Make creative and cheap centerpieces for your next party or event.
You don't have to spend a fortune to make interesting and creative centerpieces that will be a great conversation starters. Whether you're having a dinner party with friends, a party in the backyard or a more formal occasion such as a wedding, putting together centerpieces doesn't have to be stressful.
Farmers' Market
Use food items to create interesting centerpieces for little money. For a fall themed soiree, you can't go wrong with pumpkins. Arrange pumpkins of all sizes on your table, surrounded by orange votive candles. To liven it up, scatter some other fall gourds around the pumpkins as well. An elegant and simple idea for a centerpiece is to use vegetables with greenery intact such as carrots and beets. Fill a clear container such as a vase or jar with water and place the vegetables inside so you can see them through the glass. Arrange the greenery to drape out over the top. You can also do this with fruit slices. Lemons, oranges and limes make a colorful centerpiece.
Flowers
If you want to use flowers as a centerpiece but money is an issue, buy one bouquet of blooms and make it stretch. Cut the flowers and put one or two blooms each in small vases purchased from a hobby shop. Place them on the table at intervals for a classy look. Alternately, place a few flowers in a small flowerpot along with some glass beads to anchor them in.
Different Twists
Purchase small, cheap fishbowls from a pet or retail store. Fill them with colorful glass beads and water. You can float a flower on top of the water, or a tea light candle. If you're feeling adventurous, put a single fish in each bowl for an unusual centerpiece that will get guests talking. Fill large glasses with brightly colored candies for an entertaining centerpiece. Lollipops and wrapped candies will liven up your table. You can also get large margarita or martini glasses at a party shop and fill them with coffee beans or glass beads.
