Citrus county water is safe to drink.
Although some water purification salesmen would have homeowners believe otherwise, Citrus County drinking water has no problems that make it unsafe to drink. Any water problems, such as hard water stains, do not impact water safety. Does this Spark an idea?
Citrus County Water Source
Citrus County gets its drinking water from the Floridan Aquifer. The aquifer, which runs several hundred feet beneath the state's surface, is a limestone formation that holds water like a sponge.
Aquifer Water Issues
Limestone aquifer water from sources like the Floridan Aquifer contains higher magnesium and calcium content than water that comes from surface water found in lakes, streams or rivers. These minerals can cause hard water stains and could taste "funny" to people unaccustomed to the taste. However, the water's mineral content -- also found in multivitamins and foods -- cannot harm you. Citrus County treats its water with lime to soften the water, and chlorine to kill bacteria.
Consumer Confidence Report
Every year, Citrus County sends each of its customers a Consumer Confidence Report. The report, mandated by the federal government, lists county water tests, findings, and whether the water had any problems that violated federal law throughout the year.
Door-to-Door Salespeople
Citrus County utilities division has issued a statement about door-to-door salespeople offering to test drinking water. The utility calls such sales programs scams and offers information on its web site about common tactics used to convince customers that Citrus County water is unsafe to drink.
