Give your luncheon party a unique theme to make it memorable.
Hosting a luncheon for friends is a nice way to spend an afternoon. The process of planning the event itself can be almost as much fun as attending. Choose a fun or unique theme on which to plan your decorations, food and activities. Let your guests know in the invitation what the theme is so that they can choose to dress accordingly. Does this Spark an idea?
Hollywood
Prepare a table with trendy bite-sized foods and drinks like flavored martinis, sushi, miniwraps and cupcakes for dessert. Encourage guests to dress as Hollywood stars. Add to the fun by giving them each a feather boa to wear when they arrive, along with a "red carpet" leading to the table.
Luau
Hang a lei around each guest's neck as they arrive and relax outside by the pool, if you have access to one. Set the mood with tiki torches and tropical flowers. Recreate the traditional roasted-pig meal with kabobs that feature grilled cubed ham and pineapple, along with a selection of salads and fruity drinks.
Western
A grill for steaks or barbecued chicken is a must, along with cornbread and cold beer in frosty mugs. Put on the country music CD and start up a little line dancing to work up your guest's appetite before the meal. Top things off with a rich pecan pie or cobbler.
Next Luncheon Star
Model your luncheon after popular cooking reality shows and cut back on the preparation work in the process. This theme is great if you're inviting guests who love to cook. Prepare a basket with two to four ingredients that must be included in the dish, and spread out a variety of other ingredients for guests to use. Provide each guest with a basket and a course, like salad, soup, sandwich or dessert, and give them a time limit. Be sure to choose ingredients that are fairly easy to work with. The guests race to complete their dishes before the clock runs out, and everyone can enjoy their efforts when they sit down at the table.
