If you can't cook, ask a bridesmaid to help.
Organizing a bridal shower can be stressful and expensive, but making favors for shower guests doesn't need to be. Keep it simple by making edible treats for favors. Most guests will enjoy these favors, and the bride will appreciate that you made something personal for her family and friends. The bride should enjoy the favors, so consult with her beforehand to find out her favorite type of treat. Make your favors double as centerpieces by clustering them at the center of each table. Include a note on each table encouraging guests to take one home at the end of the shower.
Instructions
Favor Packaging
1. Buy cellophane bags, ribbon and decorative paper that matches the color scheme of the shower. If you don't have your own color scheme, use the wedding colors.
2. Collect glass jars if you'd rather use reusable containers than buy bags. Buy them in bulk or collect empty jars from friends.
3. Wash the jars with hot, soapy water and allow them to dry. Peel off any labels or stickers.
Making Treats
4. Make a batch of cookies that can be rolled out and cut, such as sugar or gingerbread cookies. Cut them into shapes such as simple circles or the first initial of the bride's name.
5. Frost the cookies with white frosting. You also can tint the frosting with food coloring to make it match the shower's color scheme.
6. Add food coloring to more frosting, then put it into a plastic bag, and cut off one tip to make a piping bag.
7. Pipe the bride's name or a special greeting on each cookie. If you don't have a steady enough hand to write with frosting, decorate the cookies with sprinkles.
8. Make candy, if you prefer, such as peanut brittle or candied nuts, rather than making cookies.
Packaging Treats
9. Wrap up the treats. If you're using cookies, place one large cookie in each bag. If you're using candy, fill the bag about half full with pieces. If you're using jars, fill them three-quarters full of candy. To place cookies in jars, you'll need to make bite-sized cookies so they'll fit inside.
10. Tie the bags closed with ribbon. Layer two pieces of ribbon together and tie the ribbon around the top of the bag and into a bow.
11. Screw on the jar tops if you're using jars rather than bags. Tie the ribbon around the neck of the jar or around the jar cap.
Decorating Favors
12. Buy a package of foil stickers that have the bride's initial embossed on them. You also might be able to find stickers that allow you to type up and print a personalized message on them.
13. Place one sticker in the center of each package.
14. Print or type a short message onto small cards. Thank the guests for coming to the shower or use romantic song lyrics or movie quotes.
15. Punch a hole in the corner of each card, then tie the ends of the ribbon through the hole.
