Making 21st Birthday Invitations

Gather a crowd for your 21st birthday celebration.

For many, the 21st birthday is a perfect excuse to hit the town and celebrate their now undeniable adult status. If you intend for your celebration of your 21st to include an outing, or if you are planning a 21st birthday for a friend, your first step to successfully recruiting party participants is crafting and sending out invitations. By creating invitations that are uncommon and distinctively reflective of the celebration of a 21st birthday, you can make your birthday invites more engaging and increase your guests' eagerness to attend the bash in question. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Adopt a theme. Choose a theme for the birthday as a whole, and make this theme apparent in your invitations. For example, if you plan to have a wine-themed 21st birthday party for your now-of-legal-age wine lover, you might want to add images of grapes or corks to your invitation, or select a wine-appropriate burgundy hue for the invite or the text you place on it.

2. Make your invitation an uncommon shape. While a standard square or rectangular invitation will certainly get the job done, it isn't quite as engaging as one that features a less-common shape. Choose a shape reflective of your party as a whole, and cut cardstock into this shape. For example, if your party is a beach extravaganza at which you will cook out and celebrate the birthday boy's 21st, shaping your invitation like a beach ball or a flip flop may be a wise choice.

3. Select a headline. Decide upon a short statement to rest at the top of your invitation. This statement should sum-up the theme of the party in several, carefully selected, words. For example, you could select a headline like "Brian's Big Beer Bash" to place at the top of an invitation to a guy's beer-themed 21st birthday celebration.

4. Compose your message. Write a short message that contains the pertinent party information that invited guests will require to make their decision to attend the event. In this section, include the date and time, along with the place at which your party will be held. Also, make it clear what type of party you are planning so guests can prepare for the party in question.

5. Add decorative touches. Place clip art or photographs around the invite to make it more immediately attractive and engaging. Chose images of the birthday girl and her friends, or more generic images that pertain to the party type, such as a clip art bottle of nail polish and manicured hand if the party you plan involves a day of spa-pampering.
