While considerably smaller than real palm trees, artificial palm trees have a similar leaf shape and pattern.
Artificial palm trees are small-scale replicas of their full-size tropical counterparts, and serve many purposes. They serve as indoor and outdoor decor, as stage props in plays, and can even decorate a tropical-themed float in a parade. Brighten up your home, classroom or outdoor picnic with a recyclable, biodegradable and inexpensive artificial palm tree. They're quick and simple to assemble, and can provide young children with an engaging activity requiring minimal supervision.
Instructions
1. Paint a large sheet of newspaper light green with craft paint. Cover both sides and let dry completely. Alternatively, you can use a large sheet of thin, green-colored construction paper.
2. Roll the large sheet of paper lengthwise into a tight tube. Keep a firm grasp on the base with one hand to prevent unrolling.
3. Use a sharp pair of scissors to cut several long lines from the top of the tube downwards, about 4 or 5 inches in length. Make one cut every inch, about five or six total.
4. Grasp the innermost layer of paper on the cut end and pull gently upwards. It will unroll slightly as it lengthens, which is normal. Keep pulling until your tree is approximately 6 inches longer. This unrolling will cause several "leaves" to appear from the cuts you made to the paper before unrolling. Loosen and separate any leaves that stick together.
5. Tape the seam at the base of your tree closed with clear tape just below the leaves. Once secure, use craft paint to color the trunk of your tree brown. Let dry.
6. Glue a rock or small wooden puck onto the bottom of your tree if it cannot stand on its own.
