Plan your menu.
Menu ideas for elders will ideally be nothing too intense and more traditional in nature. As aged people may have limitations for foods that agree with them, it is better to go the safe route when holding an event for seniors. The event being a dance dictates that the food choices should be light and easy on the stomach, since guests will likely be actively participating in the dance events. Does this Spark an idea?
Salad Buffet
A salad buffet is an ideal choice for a seniors' event in that each guest can pick and choose what foods suit them best. This will limit any awkward moments and will allow the attendants to privately and personally discern items will sit best with their stomach.
Add a touch of fun and festivity by creating a taco salad bar. This will allow those who are able to partake in slightly more exotic food choices to do so, while those who cannot can still partake in the plain salad choices.
Tea Party
Transform the event into a dancing tea party. Tea parties traditionally feature light foods, such as plain cake, bread, crackers and muffins, along with several choices of tea. These foods should be easy on elderly stomachs and will be light enough that the meal should not hinder the guests from dancing. Offer both hot and iced tea, as well as lemonade and juice for beverages.
Create a Menu
Another option to give the event a more formal feel and still providing guests with menu options that will best suit them and their needs is creating a short menu for a seated dinner in between dancing. Determine a handful of meal options beforehand. Consider putting the meal choices to a vote by the seniors to find the best options prior to the party.
Some suggestions for the menu that should be generally agreeable would be lasagna, chicken parmigiana, chicken noodle soup, pork chops and baked flounder. Have guests fill out a meal card as a part of the R.S.V.P. of the dance party and serve the meals once guests are seated for dinner.
