With any tropical party, the theme is about sun, sand, ocean, relaxation and fun. You can choose a specific region of the world as a theme for your tropical party or just the elements that best suit the festivities, such as a pig roast or citronella torches. Luau
Decorations for a Hawaiian-style luau can be found anywhere, from your local dollar store to online party extravaganza stores. They can be inexpensive, depending on how much you choose to decorate. If you are holding the luau outside, citronella candles and torches do triple duty as lighting, decoration and bug repellent. Silk flower leis are a given, as they are easily found and inexpensive. This gives you a rich Polynesian look that is still tropical and relaxing. Decorate with high-impact pieces like carved wooden masks or shields, and surround the party area with bamboo fencing. If your budget allows, you can even order traditional grass thatching to cover umbrellas, tents or shelters.
Caribbean
A tropical Caribbean theme will give a laid-back, island feel to your party. You can go
with an island-hopping style, or lean toward what the region is known for: rum and reggae music. Decorate with rum bottles, fisherman's netting and place a set of steel drums in a corner. Have beach hats on hand and add bongo drums and colorful glasses to create an island vacation for your guests. Theme your décor around coral reefs, a Caribbean bar, or even the famed pirates of the area. If you go upscale with the party, order orchids, bird-of-paradise flowers and dozens of ferns to add a lush tropical atmosphere.
