Tropical Party Table Decorations

Planning a tropical-themed party? Luau and island-themed parties are popular these days, so supplies are plentiful. An important part of any party decorating involves sprucing up the tables to fit the theme. Read on to learn more about tropical party table decorations. Does this Spark an idea?

Table Centerpieces

Set your table off with a tropical centerpiece. Pineapples are a natural. Just place one in the middle of each table surrounded by a garland or plastic lei of plumeria or other tropical flowers. Or, for edible art, you can cut a pineapple in half, then carve out the fruit. Mix together chunks of pineapple and other tropical fruits, like bananas, papayas and watermelon or strawberries for color, and place in pineapple shell and serve. Or, hit your local party store for paper. Papier mache palm trees, pineapples and flamingos will set off your tropical theme. Flowers also work well as centerpieces. Go extravagant with arrangements of hibiscus, or use silk palm tree leaves and plastic flowers and fruit to make your own. Even something as simple as a bowl of sand and seashells makes a great focal point for your table.

Table Covers

Dress up your table with a tropical table cover. Party stores typically carry plastic tablecloths in a variety of tropical patterns. Choices include everything from hula girls and tiki men to pineapples and palm trees. Or, go for a grass table skirt. Some stores even carry light-up hula table skirts for a special night-time visual effect. Be sure to check your party store for availability in advance, as tropical party goods can be seasonal. In non-summer months, you may need to order online.

Other Ideas

Get creative with your tropical table decorating. Tiny seashells or palm tree and pineapple confetti strewn across tables really jazzes them up. Or try floating flower votive candles in glass bowls filled with blue water and sand. Use tropical place settings with plastic coconut cups, straw place mats and tiki paper plates. Hula girls, tiki torches, and other tropical-themed taper-styled candle holders add a touch of ambiance. There are even tabletop tiki huts to cover your food from the sun and bring your island theme to life.
