Small weddings can have a big wedding feel with the right decorations.
For a small wedding ceremony, use what's around your ceremony for decorations. Using your guests to hold flowers and candles will make unique decorations for the ceremony. For church weddings, use holiday decorations for your backdrop if available. Outdoor weddings already have natural beauty, so use nature as your decorations.
Guest Flowers and Candles
Get guests involved with decorations for your small wedding. Give guests flowers as they come in and they can hold them during the ceremony. Make small bouquets of flowers that match the bridal party. Tie three or four flowers together with ribbons. Not only can guests take the flowers home after the ceremony, but they will also be involved as decorations. For a night wedding, hand out taper candles to guests. Put wax catchers on the tapers to avoid burning guests. The lit candles will illuminate the ceremony, making it romantic and intimate.
Church Ceremony Flowers and Pew Decorations
In front of the church, place tall arrangements of flowers on either side of the bride and groom. Potted plants like mums or hydrangeas can also be used for ceremony flowers. On the rows of chairs, place small wreaths or take ribbon and tie flowers to the end chair facing into the aisle. If it's a church wedding, only decorate the pews that are necessary. With a winter wedding, use snowflake ornaments at the ends of the aisles. For fall wedding, tie acorns and pine cones with brown ribbon. Small pictures of the bride and groom can also be pew decorations.
Beach Ceremony Decorations
With a small beach wedding, the best decorations are the beach and ocean. Use them for a backdrop with simple decorations in the ceremony area. Scatter rose petals and other flower petals down the aisle and use white chairs. Or, have white chair covers and tie them with ribbon in the color of the wedding colors. Tie flowers into the ribbon. String seashells to decorate the ceremony archway or the backs of the guests chairs.
Pick the Right Time of Year
For a small church wedding, consider having the wedding during Easter or Christmas. The church will already be decorated for the holiday season. Christmas will be decorated with poinsettias and a decorated Christmas tree. During Easter it will be decorated with lilies and white lace. The front will be decorated with greenery and other white flowers. Use the decorations the church already has and incorporate the flowers and decor into your theme.
