Tropical Island Scrapbook Ideas

Tropical Island Scrapbook Ideas

If you're like most scrapbookers, you look to your photos as inspiration for creative layouts. Tropical vacation photographs are a scrapbooker's dream come true, with the sun, sand, surf, crystal clear water and beautiful scenery. But such gorgeous photos can sometimes leave a person wondering what kind of layout can do them justice. A few creative details can go a long way with your tropical island scrapbook.

Things to Save

Creating a tropical island layout for your scrapbook doesn't have to be expensive. Many of the things you can embellish your scrapbook with can come from your souvenirs. If you ate at a fabulous restaurant or enjoyed a cocktail at a local bar, a coaster or menu from the establishment can be the center of a page about your dining experiences. Journal about the authentic island food you savored or the special tropical drink you tried. Sand dollars and thin shells can be used in a layout that displays beach photos. Save a map of the island to use as background paper or to remind you of the cities you visited.

Categorize Your Photos

Tropical island vacationers tend to take a lot of photographs because it is so easy to become inspired by the beauty of the island and culture. The photos are easily worthy of an entire album; however, if you are only creating a few scrapbook pages it is best to break your photos into categories and scrapbook based on that criteria. Your entire vacation wasn't just sand and water, so include pages about your activities and excursions, local culture, the lodging (resort and spa or hostel) and, of course, the beautiful scenery (plants, water, beaches, mountains and sunsets).

Catchy Titles

You don't need a plethora of embellishments to make your tropical island vacation photographs stand out. Many times the photos do the talking. Although a photo is worth a thousand words, there are some great titles that can make your tropical pages stand out. Showcase the ocean and your fun water activities by using "Fun In The Sun," "Beach Bum," "Surf's Up," "Sun Kissed," "Whale of a Good Time," "You, Me and the Beach" or "Take Me Away." "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," "Happy Hour" and "Island Allure" make lighthearted titles for photos of you enjoying a tropical drink or a celebratory toast.

The Ocean as Inspiration

Waves and islands go hand in hand, so try a creative layout that uses torn paper to make a two-dimensional page of ocean waves. Tear two or three strips of blue paper and layer them on top of each other to make the appearance of crashing waves. This technique really makes a page pop and and just screams for a fun title. A thin piece of netting tacked to the corner of a page also makes for a creative layout centered around the sea or a fishing excursion and many nautical scrapbook pages also use thin roping as an embellishment.
