Simple Games To Play With Your Children

Toss out the board games and get ready for some real fun.

Playing games is a great way for kids to stay occupied and have a good time. Unfortunately, some games aren't meant for children of all ages, as playing them may be too complicated, which is unfair if you have a group of children of various ages. However, there are some games out there that your whole family can play that are simple, fun and great for all ages.

Mini Olympics

Mini Olympics is a great family game that’s both fun and great exercise for everyone. Set up some obstacles around your yard, such as hurdles, things to climb over, a water balloon toss or wheel barrow races. Explain the course to your kids and run through it with them so they know where to run and what to do. Set up a start and finish line and have plastic dollar store medals or ribbons waiting for the winner. As parents, you can be the cheerleaders for your children. Have Band-Aids readily available just in case.

Seltzer Melt

If you don't mind being completely soaked by water guns, then you'll love playing Seltzer Melt. This game is best played outdoors in a large yard or field. Each person who plays will need a water gun and an Alka-Seltzer tablet stringed onto a yarn necklace. You can set up teams or have every child or adult for themselves. The goal of the game is to be the person (or team) with a full tablet still intact on your necklace. So you don't run out of water while playing, you can set up home bases with hoses or tubs of water readily available.

Cross the Sea

Cross the Sea is an educational and fun game that will keep you laughing for hours. This game requires at least four people, although the more people there are, the more fun the game will be. To play, you'll need an open space with a chair somewhere in the room. This chair is the "New World", and one person is chosen to sit or stand on the chair. Next, a person is chosen to be the "Mayflower", a boat of pilgrims that crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 1620 in search of a better place to live. This person must successfully make it across the room, blindfolded, to the "New World". The leftover people are to be "rocks"; they must sit, stand or lie on the floor and not move. The "New World" must direct the "Mayflower" to their location, helping them maneuver around the rocks. The "Mayflower" is not allowed to talk to all. Once the "Mayflower" reaches the "New World", switch up roles. This game is really funny since if the "Mayflower" runs into a rock, they can't laugh or shout.
