Spongebob Party Ideas

SpongeBob SquarePants remains a favorite character of many kids. A SpongeBob party brings your child's favorite character into the celebration and allows for fun decorations and activities at the party. Add personal touches throughout the process as you plan your SpongeBob party. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

Use a yellow sponge to create fun invitations for a SpongeBob party. Print the party information on a piece of yellow card stock, and cut it to fit the sponge. Glue the information card to the back of the sponge. Add SpongeBob's facial features to the front side of the sponge. Mail the invitations in padded envelopes or hand deliver them.

Decorations

Decorate the party area to resemble Bikini Bottom, the underwater city that is home to SpongeBob. Make large cardboard cutouts of the landmarks in the cartoon, such as SpongeBob's pineapple home and the Krusty Krab restaurant. Drape blue streamers along the ceiling all around the party room. Add lots of blue balloons filled with helium and a bubble machine to add to the atmosphere.

Activities

Have a sponge toss if the party is held outdoors. Divide the kids into pairs. Provide a large sponge for each pair. Dip each sponge into a bucket of water. Start with the partners only a few feet apart. Have the kids toss the wet sponges back and forth. Move the partners farther apart once they have mastered catching the sponges at a close distance. Continue increasing the distance between the partners. The kids should be soaked by the end of the game.

Food

Cook hamburgers for the party and call them Krabby Patties. An alternative main dish option is to make sandwiches with various fillings and cut them into fish shapes using a cookie cutter. Serve goldfish crackers or pasta salad made with shell pasta as the side dish. Serve blue juice for drinks to resemble ocean water.

Cake

Use a sheet cake to make a SpongeBob birthday cake. Ice the bottom 1/4 of the cake to resemble SpongeBob's brown shorts and white shirt. Cover the rest of the cake in yellow icing. Add SpongeBob's facial features in icing, or create them using fondant. Use a darker yellow icing to add the holes in SpongeBob's body. Make his arms and legs out of fondant, and gently press them into the sides and bottom of the cake.

Favors

Purchase a beach pail for each guest. Fill the beach pail with beach- and SpongeBob-themed items. Ideas for the pail include bubbles, sand shovels, beach balls, plastic ocean animals or small SpongeBob toys. Prepare thank you notes on yellow card stock and decorate them with SpongeBob stickers. Attach the thank you notes to the pails with yellow ribbon.
