Strawberry Shortcake Kids' Party Ideas

A child's party becomes very special when it features her favorite characters.

Strawberry Shortcake has been a popular character for many years. The red-haired, freckle-faced girl is a favorite for costumes, dolls, decorating items and much more.

A Strawberry Shortcake party will delight young children. Party items are available for purchase at party or craft stores and at many family shopping businesses. Free items to print from the Internet, as well as homemade items, will also provide a wide variety of ideas for a Strawberry Shortcake party. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitation Ideas

Cut a piece of plain red or strawberry printed fabric in the shape of a strawberry. Glue the strawberry onto the front of a blank card to make party invitations. Strawberry-shaped buttons can be glued onto blank cards for textured invitations. Ideas for free printable cards and pictures are available on the Internet.

Goodie Bag Ideas

Put strawberry-shaped lollipops or gummy candies, or plain red ones, into goodie bags. Strawberry Shortcake coloring books come in packages of around six to 12 at party stores and can be put into the bags with a small box of crayons. Strawberry erasers and red or pink pencils work well for older children. Consider purchasing beanbag dogs or cats and put one inside each bag to become a "strawberry pet" like Pupcake. For a low-cost bag stuffer, make a strawberry-shaped beanbag for each party guest. Computer print programs typically have appropriate pictures for children that can be printed onto sticky label paper and cut out to stuff into goodie bags.

Cake Ideas

Cupcakes can be arranged in a party-theme shape.

Bakeries can typically make a Strawberry Shortcake party cake. However, a more inexpensive cake idea is to buy a plain frosted cake or bake a cake at home. Then, tint white frosting red, pink, green and black or whatever colors you need for your cake idea. Use a toothpick to draw a strawberry or Strawberry Shortcake's face onto the cake. Use a plastic baggie with a hole in one corner as a decorating tool. Squeeze frosting onto the cake in a desired shape. Then, add features with other colors of frosting. Cupcakes can easily be decorated with eyes, nose, mouth, hair and even freckles. Or, frost all the cupcakes with red or pink icing, then arrange the cupcakes in the shape of a strawberry.

Game Ideas

Toss red or pink beanbags onto a large cardboard cutout shaped like a strawberry.

Have a treasure hunt for goodies placed inside small red or pink envelopes. Hold relay races to carry balloons one at a time on a wooden spoon and fill a tub. Pin a strawberry onto a cardboard cake picture. Have the kids blow through a straw to move a paper strawberry across a game area.

Craft Ideas

Have kids design hats from paper lunch bags, paper plates, foam bowls or construction paper. Make necklaces or bracelets with red, pink, white and green plastic crafting beads. String the beads onto plastic lacing. Make shoelace or hair-tie decorations by stringing beads onto four or five chenille stem halves, then twisting together and forming a loop to slip onto shoestrings or ribbons.
