Spongebob Crafts

Children can create SpongeBob crafts using a few supplies.

SpongeBob Squarepants is an animated yellow sponge that lives in a pineapple under the sea. Some of his friends include Mr. Krabs, Sandy the squirrel, Patrick and Squidward. Many children love the bright yellow sponge and can enjoy making crafts that feature him or his friends. Crafts also help young children learn fine motor skills and hand-to-eye coordination. A few inexpensive supplies and some SpongeBob-loving kids are all you need to get started.

Easy Crafts

For an easy craft, print coloring pages of SpongeBob and have the children color the pages with markers, crayons and paint. For added decoration, paint a thin layer of glue on the yellow part of SpongeBob and have the children sprinkle fine yellow glitter over the glue. Shake off any excess glitter and the children will have a sparkling SpongeBob. For another easy craft, have the children wrap an empty cereal box with yellow construction paper. They can use toilet paper and paper towel rolls to create his arms and legs. Tell the children to use markers to add SpongeBob's features.

Painting Crafts

Give each child a sheet of paper and a rectangle sponge. Have the children dip the sponge into yellow paint and press it onto the paper. After the paint dries, have the children use markers to draw a face, shorts, arms, legs, a shirt and a tie on the sponge painted to make SpongeBob. For another paint activity, the children can create a "Bikini Bottom" bubble painting. Put several drops of food coloring into bubble solutions. Have the children blow the bubbles onto sheets of paper to create a bubble explosion.

Sponge Crafts

Children can decorate a yellow rectangle sponge to look like SpongeBob Squarepants. Give the children googly eyes, construction paper, chenille stems and pieces of fabric to use. See who can make the most realistic SpongeBob using their imagination. For another idea, print pictures of SpongeBob's clothes, shoes, eyes and face. The children can color the pictures and glue them directly on to the sponge. Have them use yellow chenille stems to create his arms and feet.

Pineapple Crafts

SpongeBob lives in a pineapple so have the children make a few pineapple home crafts. Give each child a small brown paper sack and tell him to crumble newspaper to fill the back about 2/3 of the way full. Gather the bag at the top and secure with a rubber band. Tell children to create a diagonal checkerboard all over the paper sack to resemble the outside of a pineapple. The children can use green strips of construction paper to make the leaves of the pineapple. Attach a construction paper door and windows to the pineapple. For another variation, have the children decorate a real pineapple to look like SpongeBob's house. They can tape a construction paper door and windows to the pineapple.
