Recipes For Children'S Party Foods

Making delicious recipes for a children's party can be simple and inexpensive. You can either stick with one or two favorites or make a buffet spread to ensure you provide something for even the fussiest guests. It is a good idea to find out from parents in advance about any food allergies that party guests may have. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Toothpick Treats

Small portions of food served on toothpicks are easy for children to eat without the need for knives and forks. Bake mini sausages or cut up hot dogs in the oven and serve them on a plate with toothpicks stuck into each bite-sized piece. You could cook some with barbecue sauce and leave some plain to satisfy different tastes. Cubes of cheese and apple can be served this way, too. Instead of serving the snacks on a plate, cover a raw potato with foil and stick all the food-topped toothpicks into the potato to make a "porcupine."

Sandwiches

A simple selection of different sandwiches, like peanut butter and jelly, tuna salad, ham and turkey, on both white and wheat bread, make filling food for a party and are a good backup for feeding fussy children. To make them more interesting and festive, cut off the crusts and then use a knife or cookie cutter to cut the sandwiches into shapes. Even round sandwiches are more fun than regular triangles or squares.

Cereal Treats

Most children love both cereal and candy bars, so for an easy dessert they are sure to enjoy, prepare some cereal treats. The basic recipe is almost foolproof--just melt candy bars, plain chocolate and/or marshmallows, then add dry cereal to the mixture. Shape the treats, refrigerate them, and decorate them with frosting or extra melted chocolate if you wish. You could make a few different combinations, like Snickers and Cheerios, or peanut butter cups and corn flakes, and add extras like nuts or chocolate chips.
