Wedding Settings In Hawaii

Hawaiian beachside weddings take place on public and private beaches.

Hawaii wedding settings range from sandy beaches to a forest next to a waterfall. Hawaii is known for its beautiful weather and scenery, and many couples take advantage of this for out-of-state weddings. Getting married out of state isn't difficult and has few restrictions. Several companies offer wedding planning and officiant services at different locations.

Beach

The Hawaiian beaches offer blue seas and long stretches of sand. While some couples get married on private beaches at hotels or other locations, many take advantage of the free public beaches. The Maui beaches are all public. Many companies offer ministers that will marry you on the beach. Prices for these services vary. A drawback is that many of the public beaches are crowded during the day. Private beaches offer seclusion but can be expensive.

Church

Churches and chapels cater to couples that want to get married in a traditional religious setting. The Grand Wailea Chapel holds 100 guests. The chapel has stained glass windows, floral gardens, gazebos, beachfront access and overlooks the ocean. The Keawalai Church is another beachfront church in a secluded area of Makena. The church is one of the oldest in Maui, originally built in the 1830s. The Saint Andrews Cathedral in Honolulu is a large venue featuring stained-glass windows and typical church architecture including arches and a large ceiling. Saint Peter's Church is a Catholic church in downtown Kona. It's a small location with only a few dozen pews and was built in 1889.

Resorts

Several Hawaiian resorts offer wedding packages. The resorts have wedding locations that are often on the beach or on the resort grounds. The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa has a wedding gazebo on the grounds and hosts events from small intimate weddings to weddings with 100 guests. A ballroom and great hall are also on-site for receptions. The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa has six wedding locations, several on the property lawns overlooking the ocean. The hotel sits on the historic Black Rock next to the ocean. The Westin Maui Resort & Spa has two venues, the Hale Aloha Gazebo and Aloha Pavilion.

Gardens

Hawaii garden weddings are also a popular choice. These gardens offer scenic waterfalls, exotic birds and vibrant tropical plants. The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens is located north of Hilo on the Big Island. The gardens offer wedding packages that include a minister, leis, a cake and admission to the park for up to 30 guests. The Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens has several different locations for weddings. The gardens span more than 240 acres, including a hardwood plantation and areas with ocean views.

Hawaiian Rules and Regulations

Hawaii has no waiting period for getting married, but you might need a permit at some of the beaches. You must also apply for a license at a marriage license office, located throughout Hawaii.
