Plant Word Games For Kids

When it comes to plants, there are plenty of weird-sounding and technical words to describe their different parts and various processes. For kids, it can be tough knowing their carpels from their stamens and distinguishing pollination from photosynthesis. There's just so much vocabulary to learn. But it doesn't have to be a chore. Kids can master those tricky terms by playing an online game, a board game or even a game they made at home.


Plants Word Search


A plants word search is an online version of the traditional pastime. Hunt for plant words hidden among a jumble of other letters. The vocabulary includes the basic parts of a flowering plant and the conditions it needs to grow. Play the game alone, or make it competitive by taking turns to race against your friends and find the hidden terms. Press a button to re-scramble the words to play again.


Science Vocabulary Hangman


Kids take turns to spell out and guess the hidden word before the hangman picture is complete. This old favorite is well-suited to learning any set of tricky or technical words such as the vocabulary of plants. Science Vocabulary Hangman is an online version, which allows you to choose from a range of vocabulary lists. Its section on plants contains 15 different lists. Players can see a clue to help them solve each puzzle and there is an option to create your own vocabulary list.


The Great Plant Escape


The Great Plant Escape is an online game that kids can play in English or in Spanish. They are challenged to help Detective Leplant solve a series of cases involving plants, using their knowledge of plant vocabulary.


Fruit and Vegetables Quizmo


For players up to 8 years old, this matching game introduces basic vocabulary about plants and the names of common fruit and vegetables. There are a number of ways to play, and the game contains five colorful game boards, 30 flash/playing cards and 30 jumbo markers.


Plant Lotto


Write plant vocabulary on slips of paper, mix them up and put them in a bowl, draw up some bingo cards with the same vocabular, and you're ready to play Plant Lotto. The caller draws a slip of paper from the bowl and reads out the plant word. The players check off the words on their bingo cards. The first player to check all the words on a card is the winner.


Plant Word Scramble


Take a list of plant words, rearrange the letters and you have a plant word scramble. For example: "rethan" for "anther." Players have a time limit to unscramble their lists. The first to do so is the winner.
